Resicon, a Dutch startup, has had its planned polysilicon plant at the Port of Groningen officially designated by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate as a strategic project under the EU Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA). The project aims to increase Europe’s domestic high-purity polysilicon production capacity to mitigate supply chain risks, with more than 85% of current global polysilicon production concentrated in China. Resilicon plans to build the world’s most efficient and energy-saving production facility, prioritizing the use of raw materials such as green industrial silicon and hydrogen. The project is expected to involve a total investment of approximately €900 million. With the development of Europe’s photovoltaic industry, annual polysilicon demand in Europe is projected to reach 80,000 to 120,000 tons by 2030, and this facility will serve as a core pillar supporting Europe in building a resilient photovoltaic industry chain.
