Under the framework of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Recupel and PV Cycle are the two main compliance solution providers supporting producers in fulfilling their obligations under the WEEE Directive. Both are members of the Belgian EPR alliance ROUND.

Starting from July 1, 2023, PV Cycle has established a new environmental contribution fee structure based on eco-modulation principles: components that are harder to recycle incur higher fees than those that are easier to recycle. For the most common crystalline silicon components with aluminum frames, the environmental contribution has decreased from €2 per module to €1.5.

From 2016 to 2022, Belgium collected approximately 6,000 tons of photovoltaic module waste.

Belgium anticipates a peak in waste reporting in 20-30 years.
