China Xinhua News Agency's authoritative weekly "Outlook Weekly" recently published a special report providing an in-depth analysis of China's photovoltaic (PV) module recycling industry. The report points out that China's installed PV capacity has exceeded 1,000 gigawatts, with the first batch of PV equipment entering the centralized decommissioning phase, and it is predicted that 2025 will witness a peak in decommissioning.

According to forecasts by the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, large quantities of decommissioned PV modules will be generated in China by 2025. Over the next decade, the scale of decommissioning is expected to grow at an annual rate of 30%. Specific data shows that by 2025, the cumulative decommissioned modules nationwide are projected to reach 9GW, with that year's decommissioned modules exceeding 2.7GW (equivalent to approximately 210,000 to 270,000 tons). According to the forecast of the PV Committee of China Green Supply Chain Alliance (China ECOPV Alliance) , under the natural retirement scenario in China, the cumulative photovoltaic retirement volume will reach 1 million tons and 12 million tons in 2030 and 2040  respectively; under the early retirement scenario, it will reach 4 million tons and 23 million tons respectively.

The report highlights that the world's first fully recycled PV module has been showcased in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, with a power rating exceeding 645W. This fully recycled photovoltaic module is a major achievement of PV recycling technology, which was led by the PV Committee of China Green Supply Chain Alliance (China ECOPV Alliance) , undertaken by  Trina Solar and jointly participated by RESOLAR , Yongzhen, Flat Group and other  corporations.

As a national-level policy interpretation platform, "Outlook Weekly" focuses this report on the technological pathways, economic viability, and standardized framework construction of PV recycling. The report emphasizes the urgent need to build a comprehensive industry-wide recycling system to address the impending wave of module decommissioning.
