RESOLAR CEO and Co-founder Hongjia ZHANG discusses the opportunities and challenges in the development of the photovoltaic recycling industry

Hongjia ZHANG, CEO and co-founder of RESOLAR, mentioned, "The solar industry is expected to generate over 100 GW of silicon materials annually for recycling in the future. By using recycled silicon materials, PV companies can further reduce costs and increase efficiency. Using recycled silicon materials may be a simpler and more direct cost reduction solution compared to reducing the cost per watt by improving efficiency. Additionally, PV companies in China often encounters requirements regarding carbon footprint when exporting solar products. The use of recycled silicon materials can significantly and effectively reduce the carbon footprint of the produced photovoltaic modules, thereby meeting export requirements and enhancing the competitiveness of the produced photovoltaic modules."

Hongjia ZHANG also mentioned that :"With proprietary solvents and related processing equipments, RESOLAR is capable of stable and low-cost bulk processing of decommissioned PV modules to 6N silicon material. The recycled silicon material produced by RESOLAR has been verified by multiple parties, confirming its feasibility as a monocrystalline auxiliary material during the pulling process. RESOLAR has already produced gigawatt-level monocrystalline solar cells."


Regarding the future development of the photovoltaic recycling industry, Mr. ZHANG stated that "Photovoltaic recycling is the future trend, and recycling will be the next explosive growth point in the solar industry. Establishing a rational recycling system and using mature recycling technology to achieve the ultimate high-value recycling of decommissioned PV moduls, especially in terms of using recycled silicon materials to manufacture low-carbon, low-cost components, is the goal of every photovoltaic recycling enterprise. It is also the fundamental factor in maintaining competitiveness in the fierce market competition of the future."


The recycling of decommissioned PV modules involve complex issues related to environmental protection, resource utilization, and energy efficiency.
