As the photovoltaic market continues to expand, it is expected that the number of decommissioned crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules will increase sharply after the expiration of their lifespan in the future. How to deal with decommissioned modules has become a focus of attention. According to the research results of the 863 project of the Ministry of Science and Technology during the 12th Five-Year Plan, decommissioned photovoltaic modules are expected to exceed 60 GW in 2030 in China, and the total mass of glass, plastic, aluminum, copper, silicon, silver and other components will exceed 2 million tons. Most of these materials can be recycled and reused through proper recycling, which can effectively alleviate the pressure on the ecological environment, reduce the energy consumption of the entire photovoltaic industry chain, and further optimize the green energy-saving characteristics of the photovoltaic modules throughout their life cycle. Therefore, the recycling and harmless treatment of photovoltaic modules is one of the core issues in the industry and the environmental sector. In the past recycling technologies, the profit from the recycling of decommissioned photovoltaic modules cannot fully make up for the cost of transportation, disassembly and recycling. The economic efficiency of recycling is still a critical issue restricting the sustainable development of the photovoltaic recycling industry.
