Italy's photovoltaic module collection volume surged from 1,350 tons in 2018 to 21,943 tons in 2022, becoming the country with the largest collection volume in the European Union. The vast majority (21,315 tons) came from specialized power plants.

In Italy, there is currently no dedicated recycling plant established specifically for photovoltaic modules. This is because the quantity of decommissioned photovoltaic modules is insufficient and has not yet formed a distinct market. However, to prepare for the wave of decommissioning expected in the coming decades, some companies have already begun taking action. For example: 9-tech and EcoWeTech have launched pilot plants and demonstration projects to prepare and validate technologies for large-scale future recycling.
