We Recycle Solar (WRS), a company focused on photovoltaic module recycling, plans to officially launch a new plant near Dallas, Texas, in the third quarter of 2027.

The company stated that this first-of-its-kind commercial-scale facility in the United States will recover 96% of the silver, copper, silicon, aluminum, and glass from decommissioned photovoltaic modules. After purification, these materials will be supplied back to U.S. manufacturers for the production of new products.

WRS, headquartered in Arizona, said that the plant will be the first photovoltaic recycling facility in the United States to achieve a closed-loop, end-to-end recycling process, eliminating the need to transport recovered materials overseas for "deep purification." The company explained in its announcement: "This plant will use our independently developed, high-efficiency, full-process critical mineral extraction technology, with the capacity to process one photovoltaic module per minute, completely eliminating the need to ship materials overseas for downstream smelting."

We Recycle Solar founder and CEO Adam Saghei said: "Photovoltaic modules contain exactly the critical materials that the U.S. supply chain urgently needs. However, until now, no U.S. company has been able to achieve efficient, comprehensive recovery of these resources at such a large scale. Through our advanced process, all material recovery steps are completed entirely within the United States, keeping these critical minerals—and the value that previously flowed to processing operations in Asia—within the domestic supply chain."

The company noted in its announcement that approximately 90% of decommissioned photovoltaic modules in the United States are currently either sent directly to landfills or transported to processing sites in Asia. After large quantities of critical minerals are recovered there, they are completely removed from the U.S. domestic supply chain.

Several companies in the United States have already entered the photovoltaic module recycling business, with notable examples including Solarcycle and Comstock.
