Japan's Central Glass launches pilot production for recycling end-of-life photovoltaic glass
Oct 31, 2026
Central Glass Products recently completed a pilot production run, recovering approximately 16 metric tons of cover glass from decommissioned photovoltaic panels. Since June this year, the company has launched a horizontal recycling business to address the expected sharp increase in the volume of end-of-life photovoltaic panels requiring processing in Japan after 2030.
Since cover glass accounts for approximately 60% of the total weight of a photovoltaic panel, recycling it is an important part of conserving resources. Central Glass uses advanced glass separation equipment and an EVA delamination unit developed by NPC to efficiently recover glass materials. This process is essential for converting waste into reusable resources.
The recovered glass is reprocessed as raw material for manufacturing polished wired flat glass and patterned glass, significantly reducing industrial waste. This process not only reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill but also conserves the natural resources needed to produce new glass. Central Glass’s efforts highlight the key role of recycling in conserving natural resources.
